The IGBR 2019 Spring Conference in New Orleans has drawn to a close. A big thanks to all of the participants that have made this another great conference! We had our largest conference yet with over 70 registrants. Our steady growth in attendance is a good sign and we are all very optimistic about the organization’s future. We had a number of great papers submitted for award and journal consideration and have included a list of Distinguished Research Award winners below.

The IGBR Board of Directors elected to offer a few new awards this year. One of the new awards was named in honor of Dr. JoAnn Carland. As many of you know, her vision was for a supportive academic conference and a review process that encourages authors to create papers worthy of journal publication. That vision is the driving force behind the IGBR.

We are already planning conferences for 2020. We have been invited to host a conference in India around the first week in January and are working with colleagues there to help organize that meeting. We are also gathering proposals for another meeting in New Orleans the first week of April and one in Nashville the third week in May. We will keep you posted as those events come together. Don’t forget, we will be having another Summer Internet Conference this July 24-30 and our 2019 Fall conference in Las Vegas is on October 16-18 this year. See the Call for Papers (https://www.igbr.org/conferences/) for more information.

2019 Spring Conference in New Orleans
AWARD WINNERS

JoAnn C. Carland Distinguished Service Award

Dr. JoAnn C. Carland was a scholar, researcher, and educator with a vision to support researchers from teaching universities. She was a scholar in the field of entrepreneurship and was one of the most cited authors in that field. She was the founder and president of an academic organization with a mission to encourage research with a collegial atmosphere and supportive culture. JoAnn modeled this because she always was the most encouraging participant at any conference. The IGBR was founded on these same core values. The IGBR board created this award in the memory of JoAnn Carland. This award is bestowed on individuals who have provided unwavering support and dedication to the IGBR mission.

Dr. Martin Bressler, Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Dr. Jeff Mankin, Lipscomb University

Martin and Jeff were two of the four people at the center of the IGBR’s creation in the Spring of 2017. Their passion and leadership have been a driving force in the success of the organization.

These individuals have been supporters and ambassadors of the IGBR. They have encouraged attendance at the conferences, worked as Referees and Advocates, and taken on extra duties on behalf of the organization. They have been great friends and colleagues, and are clearly worthy of Fellow status.

Dr. Hari Sharma, Virginia State University

Dr. Julio Rivas, Lipscomb University

Hari and Julio were the other two people who helped start the IGBR. Their support and enthusiasm has been invaluable to the birth and growth of the organization.

Editor Appreciation Award

These Journal Editors have done great work in what is often a thankless job. They are dedicated to maintaining a double-blind, peer review process that is rigorous but supportive. Their job is to help authors improve their papers, even if that means making multiple revisions. We thank you for your time, energy and dedication to the core mission of the IGBR.

Another excellent IGBR conference! It is always a pleasure to catch up with friends and colleagues and see some excellent research presentations. Great mix os seasoned research faculty and new faculty with great research potential. We also had a very impressive group of student researchers from Longwood and Austin Peay universities–excellent representatives for their universities!
Congratulations to all the award winners and my thanks to the Board members, editors, and reviewers for their work in making this conference and the IGBR a success! I am honored, along with Jeff Mankin, to be the recipient of the JoAnn C. Carland Distinguished Service Award. We hope to continue her work by providing a welcoming and supportive environment for academic researchers where we work together to advance knowledge across the business disciplines. I can’t wait to get started on our next paper for the 2020 conference and hope to see you all there in New Orleans!
